What does that number symbol mean in Twitter??
The number symbol, or “hash tag”, is a symbol used in Twitter feeds to highlight a certain term or theme. It began as a way to search and track popular ideas in Twitter feeds, but now has become a way to target your tweets so that they appear in particular searches. For example, to ensure that my post wil come up in all “wedding” searches, I can incorporate #wedding into my tweet, or #engagementrings for all searches pertaining to engagement rings. This is a huge benefit when searching for particular terms or trending topics. It also makes it easy to filter out tweets that are relevant to your business because it enables you to streamline tweets pertaining to a specific theme or trending topic. Including Hash Tags in your tweets will help your tweet land on the right page and in front of the right eyes!
